There are a number of codes used, depending on what lights come on and where in the four parts of the ring they are, that are more specific to what kind of problem the XBox 360 may have.

Unfortunately, when the 3 red lights come on, there’s no way of knowing what the specific problem may be. This is kind of a Catch-All code that can cover anything from a simple loose connection to complete failure of a major component. 

In most cases, however, the three red light error code is an indication of the easiest types of problems that can be fixed by the users themselves.

2. Does the 3 Red Light Error mean my XBox 360 is Broken?

This all depends on what events took place before the three red light error came on.

In almost all cases, if the lights came on during normal usage the problem will range from temporary (such as overheating) to semi-permanent.

What that means is the problem that caused the 3 red lights is relatively minor but must be physically attended to before being corrected.

3. How many people experience the XBox 360 Three Red Lights?

Amazing as this may seem, the occurrence of the 3 red lights has been happening to approximately 10% of all XBox 360’s sold!

If you figure how many millions of these units have been produced, then it’s hard to imagine the sheer volume of XBox 360s that are on hold and waiting in line for repair.

Stories abound all over the internet about people paying somewhere in the range of $140 and waiting up to 6 weeks or more to have their own XBox 360 serviced.

4. Can I Fix My XBox 360 Myself?

In many cases, Yes you can.

Since the 3 Red Light error does not give a specific diagnosis, the cause could be extremely simple.
